Apr 01, 1991 · It's an ok book covering pretty much all the types of intimate jewelry the ancient Egyptians wore. It's kind of short and sweet, pretty nice prints but nothing spectacular. It's worth about $25 or less in reality. If it is out of print I'd suggest getting it used or waiting for another printing or chose another higher quality book.3.8/5(9)

Author Carol Andrews not only shows us jewelry from 4000 years of Egypt, but shares fascinating observations and insights. For example she includes line drawings of tomb paintings with plenty of explanation what we are seeing. Some are funny, as with the two gold workers. Surprisingly the best chapters were those on materials and techniques.4.3/5

A terrific book! As an update: Ancient Egyptian Jewelry by Carol Andrews (a great Egyptologist in her own right) adds little to Aldreds work technically. Though there are more color photos, (many reprints from Aldred's book! including many from her previous excellent Amulets of Ancient Egypt publication) the cover price of $125. ($75. used) hardly warrants putting this book above anything done by Aldred ~ …Reviews: 18

I bought this book to aid me in dating of ancient jewelry. However, as most of the ancient jewelry was used by ordinary people (as it is today) this particular book was not very useful. This book does provide an up-close and majestic view of exquisite jewelry, though. Hence, the title says it all: masterpieces.Reviews: 16
