This trail is most certainly the long way up to Mt. Washington if that is your intended destination. Although the grade is nothing like Tuckerman Ravine, the Jewell Trail is longer, but not easier.Additionally, this is also the location of the Cog Railway that chugs up to the summit of Mt. Washington.

The Jewell Trail is around 3.7 miles in length, where it reaches the Gulfside Trail at 5,400'. The trail itself is not very difficult or steep, and is one of the least rocky trails on the mountain. The hike in the woods is fairly uneventful, however the scenery is very nice.72%(2)

Dec 12, 2020 · Beyond the spur there is a trail junction, marked by a privy, where a western course will take you along a loop created by the Peninsula Trail and the Mine Trail. Campsites rim the Peninsula Trail, which skirts Jewell's western shore. The Mine Trail runs along a ridge high above Cocktail Cove and passes the ruins of an old farm house.

Trails: This hike encompasses the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail to Lake of the Clouds hut, continues on to the Mt. Washington summit from the Lake of the Clouds hut via Camel Trail to Davis Path to Crawford Path. The hike finally heads back from the summit via the Gulfside Trail which leads to the Jewell Trail and down to parking.

The classic loop is Ammo-Crawford-Trinity Heights- Gulfside- Jewell trails. Upper sections of Jewell near Mount Clay are tough with many rocks and tough foot travel. Aug 18, 2012 · The Jewell Trail route up to the summit is a little longer than the route via Ammonoosuc Ravine (5.1 miles (8.2 km) versus 4.5 miles (7.2 km) and 3,900 ft. (1,188 m) versus 3,800 ft. (1,158 m) elevation gain), but if you’ve tried both, I think you’ll agree that the Jewell Trail is easier overall! There are two trailheads for the Jewell Trail.

The Gulf Side Trail is a very leisurely, mostly flat walk through alpine country. After .7 miles, you will take the Jewell Trail to the left to hike back down the mountain to the parking lot. The beginning of the Jewell Trail on your way down is a bit of a scramble, dropping just over 1000' in a very short distance.
