Kurt Jobst was born in Germany in 1905, the son of an antiques dealer and theatre manager mother. In 1935 he moved to Johannesburg, where he set up a workshop in Johannesburg by shipping over equipment from Germany. He ran a successful jewellery and silversmith business until the late 1960s, when he decide to retire to a farm in Swaziland.
