Remove the paint with a solvent that removes paint, such as fingernail polish remover or denatured alcohol. Soak a cotton ball or rag with the solvent and rub it on the bottom of the mug to verify it will not damage the surface and that it's effective in removing the paint.

Pour some windex into a little glass and heat in the microwave for about 30-45 seconds (so its reallllly hot)....remove the glass from the microwave, put the rings in the glass and let them soak for a while. The windex will NOT harm gold, plat, or diamonds. (DO NOT use this on soft stones and/or pearls!)
