You CAN send precious metal and other jewelry to China via First Class Mail International, but you have to send it INSURED. I ALWAYS send them FCMI Registered Mail. It's $12.95 to send it registered (on top of your normal postage) and fairly slow (can take 3 to 6 weeks), but you can track it the entire trip and they have to sign for the item, so you get delivery confirmation.
